First—just where does our pronunciation of coyote come from. Who made this up anyway? It is listed “kī’ōt, kīō’tē” in the American Heritage Dictionary. The first “o” sounding like a long “i”. And as “kahy-oh-tee, kahy-oht” on dictionary.com, with the first “o” sounding like an “ah”. Huh? Makes it easy to see why English is such a difficult second language. Hard enough as a first. I can not seem to spell this word correctly without looking it up. Ever.
Coyotes are agile and tricky though, so maybe that has something to do with it.
